ETD Technical Support - Creating a Half Title Page
|
The purpose of this tutorial is to give you an idea of what a half title page should look like and how to create one in the Microsoft Word Formatting Template. Half Title Pages are necessary when you have a large image or table that appears at the beginning of an appendix and the entire table/figure won't fit on the page with the appendix title (taking into account the 1" top margin). Therefore, you must leave the title page of the appendix blank (except for the title of course), and place the table/figure on the following page. The page containing the title of the appendix is referred to as the half title page. It will have a page number and appear in the table of contents (TOC) accordingly. Any hyperlinks from the TOC to the appendix title should go to the half title page. Below is a tutorial on how to force the content to appear on its own page, leaving the half title page "blank" Step 1 - Inserting the Section Break (Next Page)To make a half title page, you will need to insert a Section Break (Next Page) immediately below the appendix title. For more detailed instruction on this, please review our tutorial on inserting section breaks. When completed, your half title page, should look like this:
When completed, your pages should look like this:
The subsequent pages follow the traditional rules for page numbering in this portion of the thesis/dissertation.
